Ugh, It's Raining. Again.

June. And raining. Not a gentle spring shower, a deluge with gale-force winds. The clouds are so low and dark, my whole house looks like a dungeon. Welcome to summer on the northern tip of Vancouver Island.

At this moment, my five-year-old is having a school-sponsored swimming lesson in an outdoor pool in the middle of a freezing, torrential downpour. My handy-dandy-man Alan is chopping up my balcony railing while bent beneath frigid sheets of driving rain. For my part, I am debating whether it's worth it to get soaked crossing the yard to the place where my table-saw sits under its veil of spiderwebs, so I can rip this window casing to width (since the idiots who built my house didn't make anything standard, from window-depths to the length of drainpipe under the bathroom sink).

Can't install the baseboards until the sliding door is framed. Can't frame the door until the casing is ripped. Can't rip the casing until the table-saw is unearthed. Can't unearth the table-saw without going out into the rain.

So you know what? Screw it. I'm staying inside with my laptop, two lovely gentlemen and their reluctant bride, and I'm not even going to feel guilty about it. Maybe if I let myself get lost in the writing, I'll stop wondering why I live in this godforsaken soggy wilderness where porphyria sufferers roam free...

Oh boy. Sounds like some quality time with your book is definitely in order.

Seriously, what is up with the weather? It's 64 degrees here, and nearly lunch time. The hell? That's the kind of weather we're used to having in March.

(Of course, as soon as it gets past the low 90's, I'm going to be complaining about that... ;) )

I can commiserate with you, it's raining and cold here in Seattle area too.

I like things on the cool side, but more like 68-70 degrees and not 49 degrees, which it is now.

Good for us readers though that you live in that Godforsaken land. Crappy weather keeps you writing then, no?

Sorry for your kid though, that so sucks.

i guess your wee one really can't get much more wet, can she? :(

but yes, great time to heat up the laptop screen, the rest does so on its own, having been turned on by you [pun intended] ;) lol

Ais, it bites the big bone. Since the start of May, we've had 4 1/2 days of sun--only 2 1/2 of them consecutive--which is terrible even for here. And it's cold--10-14C or cooler. I'm telling you, it had better turn around. Last summer, my daylilies bloomed over three weeks, and I didn't get out to enjoy a single day of them because it rained the whole time.

Hey, MB, Seattle has a climate similar to Vancouver--which is about 2/3 as rainy as where I live. Not far from here is a town so rainy and cloudy (50 days of sun a year, or something) that a family with three members who suffer porphyria wanted to immigrate there from South Africa. This is the only place they've ever been where they can go out during the day.

Actually, Laughingwolf, Blammo (a boy, btw) said they turned the heat in the pool way up, so it wasn't so bad. It's about 55F here today. Perfect weather for bathing suits!

And alas, the only heating up in my lap *ahem* is a side effect of my laptop. Unfortunately, they can't all be sex scenes...

This is why The Man insists we can never live on the island again.

Go outside and wash your hair. A totally weird experience.

yes, i's my understanding laptops generate a ton of heat, so much so it's recommended males not use them on their laps for very long :O

Heh, Seeley, Nanaimo is a tropical paradise compared to anywhere north of Campbell River. The real pisser is, when we were thinking about moving up here from Victoria, we came up to spend a weekend. It was mid-spring, and the weather was gorgeous--high 20s, not a cloud in the sky. The people we were staying with, who wanted to hire my husband, btw, told us, "Sure, it's like this quite a lot!" There's a special place in hell for those people...

Laughingwolf, why the heck didn't anyone tell my husband that two kids ago? ;)

so you could have the two? ;) lol

Um, yeah, laughingwolf...that's exactly it...

lol

I suppose telling you the current weather in Southern Spain wouldn't help, eh?

On the other hand I know EXACTLY how you feel about idiots who can't make anything standard - every minor issue on our house ends up a big one. :/
